MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin Assembly agreed Thursday afternoon to give $15 million to job training organizations over the next two years.

Public and private groups would provide matching funds to get the grants – and they could be used to train both new and present employees in various fields.

Also, the bill provides $5 million for the state Department of Workforce Development to create a computer database to match job seekers with potential employers.

The lower house passed the measure on a 94-4 vote. It now goes to the Senate.

The Assembly also agreed to spend $100,000 to get manufacturers together to discuss better ways to do business – and ways they can improve their supply chains.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation would run a series of forums. Lawmakers of both parties sponsored the bill, which was sent to the Senate on a 92-6 vote.
