SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - After years of discussion and recommendations, Combined Dispatch is halfway home in Sheboygan County. The County Board last night approved an agreement between city and county. The plan now goes to the Sheboygan City Council, and if approved, a 3-year process to merge the operation in the County Law Enforcement Center will begin. Combined Dispatch will cost about $200,000 more than the current setup. It will result in an increase in the county tax levy while the city levy will go down. However, the city will contribute two and a half million dollars for remodeling and equipment. Nine supervisors voted against it including Devin LeMahieu who said it will simply shift costs to the county. Supervisor Brian Hoffman said he favors the concept but is concerned about the cost in the current economy. Fifteen supevisors supported the plan including Mike Vandersteen who said it will improve service and is supported by fire and police departments. He said "I think it's time this needs to be done". Supervisor Charles Conrardy said right now the county doesn't have the best system that it can have. He called it a matter of saving lives and property.
