Sheboygan City Council to look into Humane Society fee usage

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The City of Sheboygan’s Common Council will look into a request that would hold collected pet license fees from the Sheboygan County Humane Society until a review of how that money is used.

Alderperson Scott Lewandoske brought the matter up for consideration, and two citizens spoke during the meeting’s public comment period supporting it, wanting assurance that money is spent only on the animals and not other expenses such as attorney fees.

When on Sheboygan’s Morning News Tuesday, Mayor Mike Vandersteen said there may not be much the city can do since the fees goes to Sheboygan County, and from there they go to the Humane Society to fund certain services that are part of a contract. While Vandersteen is personally confident the money is being spent properly, the issue will be taken up by the city’s Finance Committee for review.
