SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A former Oostburg clerk/treasurer will be sentenced next month after he was found guilty of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from the village.
Judge Terence Bourke found 56-year-old Kim Simmelink guilty of 26 counts of theft from a business setting in Sheboygan County Court Tuesday. The case was to be a jury trial before both the prosecution and defense agreed in May to let Bourke rule on the case based on submitted evidence.
Simmelink paid himself over 300-thousand dollars of village money over a two year period between 2001 and 2003 while in office. This is the second time he has been found guilty of this crime, having committed a similar offense in 2005 and 2006.
Sentencing has been scheduled for August 15.
