Highway 45 crash Friday leaves two hospitalized


MUKWA, Wis. (WSAU) -- Two people were injured in a head-on crash Friday night in Waupaca County. Sheriff’s investigators say the crash happened on Highway 45 at 8:21 p.m. in the Town of Mukwa just south of Manse Road.

Deputies say a 48-year-old man from Bear Creek was northbound and crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by a 56-year-old Sussex man. The man from Bear Creek was flown to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah with serious injuries. The Sussex man was taken to New London Family Medical Center for treatment.

Officers confirm the man from Bear Creek who received the more serious injuries was not wearing a seat belt.

Highway 45 was closed for nearly an hour.

New London Fire Department and first responders, New London Ambulance, Gold Star Ambulance, and Theda Star air ambulance assisted Waupaca County Sheriffs Department at the scene.
