Wisconsin farmers monitor immigration debate

UNDATED (WRN)   As the debate continues on Capitol Hill over immigration reform, state Representative Al Ott (R-Forest Junction) says the issue is being watched closely by farmers in Wisconsin.

Ott says agriculture, one of Wisconsin’s largest industries, is heavily dependent on immigrant labor. He says the time has come for the federal government to get serious about immigration reform, and farmers and the people who work for them are eager to see something done that will benefit both the business and the family communities of the state.

The US Senate on Thursday passed an immigration bill with bipartisan support, although the measure is expected to face strong opposition in the US House. Ott was part of a broad coalition of state lawmakers who sent a letter to Congress this week asking for quick action on immigration reform.
