Badgers Upset By Purdue

MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin men’s basketball team could be eliminated from Big Ten title contention as early as tomorrow night. The Badgers are two games out of first place with two left. But Wisconsin’s 69-56 home loss to Purdue on Sunday helped give Indiana at least a share of the regular season crown. And the Hoosiers can win the title outright with a victory over Ohio State tomorrow night. Bo Ryan’s Badgers have not won the season championship in five years. Purdue’s victory in Madison ended three straight road losses. And it was only the third win in the last nine overall games for the Boilermakers. The Badgers led by nine with 17 minutes left – but Purdue used a 21 to 3 run to pull away.  D-J Byrd scored 22 points, as the Boilermakers improved to 7-9 in the Big Ten and 14-15 overall. Jared Berggren scored 13 for the 17th-ranked Badgers, who fell to 11-5 in the conference and 20-9 overall. It was also the first time in Ryan’s 12-year tenure that the Badgers lost on Senior Day. Ryan Evans was one of five seniors honored at their final home game – and despite a sprained knee last week, he started and extended his playing streak to 132 straight games.  Wisconsin plays at Number-nine Michigan State on Thursday night.
