The Green Bay Phoenix defeated Milwaukee 62-46 in the opening round of the Horizon League tournament at the Resch Center Tuesday night. Both teams struggled from the floor. Green Bay shot under 34% while the Panthers were even worse at 26.5%, making only one field goal in the final nine minutes. The Phoenix led by 6 at the half and opened the second with a 12-2 to sieze control. Alec Brown led Green Bay (17-14) with 18 points, Kiefer Sykes added 16 and freshman Jordan Fouse had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pair Gulley topped Milwaukee (8-24) with 14. Green Bay advances for the first time in three years under head coach Brian Wardle. They will meet UIC, an 82-59 winner over Cleveland State, in the second round Friday night at Valparaiso.
