Offensive Woes Doom Badgers

EAST LANSING, MI (WHBL) - Wisconsin was eliminated from the Big Ten men’s basketball title chase Thursday night, after losing at Michigan State 58-43. The 22nd-ranked Badgers shot just over 29-percent – their lowest since 1999 – as they dropped to fifth place in the conference at 11-6 with only one game left. 10th-ranked Michigan State pulled away with a 16-0 run early in the second half. Wisconsin committed 17 turnovers – almost double its season average of almost nine-and-a-half, which led the nation. The Badgers did not have a scorer in double figures until 1:22 left, when Ben Brust made two free throws. He had 10. Keith Appling scored all but five of his 19 points after the break, to help Michigan State move into a three-way tie for second place, one game behind front-running Indiana. The Spartans are now 12-5 in the Big Ten, and 23-7 overall. Badgers’ coach Bo Ryan has now lost five straight to Michigan State. Stats L-L-C says it’s his longest losing streak to a single team since he took over at Wisconsin 12 seasons ago. The Badgers are now 20-10 overall, and will close out their regular season at Penn State on Sunday.
