RHINELANDER, WI (WXPR) - DNR officials are notifying ice anglers and others in Vilas County that the Lac du Flambeau tribe will be sponsoring a musky spearing tournament on five Vilas county lakes.
Department conservation wardens say they're working with the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission to be sure the weekend's activities are safe. They also say they want to notify the public of the tourney. Spearing tournaments are legal pursuant to federal treaties, and regulations are enforced through GLIFWC and DNR conservation wardens.
A poster advertising the tournament identifies Big Lake in Boulder Junction, Big St. Germain Lake, Big Arbor Vitae Lake and North and South Twin Lakes as tournament sites.
The department issued a request to the tribe to provide tournament results, as a courtesy.
