The Milwaukee Brewers prefer veteran utility help on the field, bringing back Yuniesky Betancourt. General Manager Doug Melvin announced the signing on Tuesday. Betancourt was the Brewers starting shortstop in 2011, playing in 152 games, hitting .252 with 13 home runs. He was released in favor of Alex Gonzalez last year but Gonzalez got hurt and gave way to Jean Segura who will open this year at the position. Melvin says Betancourt can back up at multiple infield positions. That leaves no room for Donnie Murphy who will be given his release. The Brewers also announced Taylor Green will open the season on the 15 day disabled list with a bad left hip. Pitcher Mark Rogers will also be on the 15 day DL with soreness in his right shoulder. The Brewers meet the Kansas City Royals in Cactus League play Wednesday.
