ROBERTS, WI (WSAU) - A suspect is in custody, and facing several charges related to a school fire in western Wisconsin. The Roberts police department apprehended one person at about 5:00 p.m. Thursday, one day after a $5,000 reward was offered for information about the fire that caused extensive damage to the St. Croix Central Elementary School.
The fire Tuesday morning destroyed much of the library and administrative offices. Early damage estimates are at about 1.5 million dollars.
The suspect’s name was not released. Authorities are not likely to release the name until an initial appearance is made in St. Croix County court in Hudson.
The school district has made arrangements for the kindergarten through 4th grades to have classes at a nearby Girl Scout camp until the end of the school year.
