SPARTA, WI (WTAQ) - Automatic federal spending cuts are being blamed for the cancellation of the 2013 Armed Forces Open House Day at Fort McCoy.
The event was originally scheduled for May 18th, but officials at the installation say they couldn't host it this year due to military restrictions on community outreach events under the budget cuts.
Fort McCoy usually holds its annual Armed Forces Day open house on the third Saturday in May.
The normal activities include displays of dog tags, camouflage face painting, tours and showings of military equipment.
Planning has already started for next year's open house.
