Cardinals 4, Brewers 2

by

ST. LOUIS, MO (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers ended a 2-8 road trip Sunday with a 4-2 loss at Saint Louis. The Cardinals scored all their runs in the fourth inning off Kyle Lohse, who fell to 1-5.  An R-B-I double by John Jay highlighted the rally.  Lohse got frustrated after Cards’ pitcher John Gast squared to bunt, and then pulled back to try and slash at the pitch with the Brewers’ third baseman rushing in for an apparent double-play attempt.  Cardinals’ rookie pitcher Shelby Miller tried pulling the same thing on Lohse in an earlier series in an obvious bunt situation. Lohse wouldn’t confirm it was the reason for his frustration, only saying the Cardinals knew what they did. Cards’ manager Mike Matheny said it was, “just competition.”  The Brewers got two runs back in the sixth inning, when Yuniesky Betancourt and Jeff Bianchi had run-scoring singles. The Brewers blew a chance to take the lead in the seventh, when they loaded the bases with nobody out and didn't score. Two innings later, Milwaukee fell to its 23rd loss in its last 32 games against Saint Louis. Gast won his second Major League start. He struck out five in five-and-a-third innings, while giving up two runs on four hits. He's now 2-and-0. Edward Mujica threw a perfect ninth for his 13th save. Lohse gave four runs in six innings, as the Brewers fell to 2-and-7 in his nine starts. Norichika Aoki had three singles and a walk for the last-place Brewers. They dropped to 10-and-a-half games behind front-running Saint Louis in the National League Central. Milwaukee will host the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo will face Dodgers' left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
