MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A state appeals court reinstated a speeding ticket Thursday against a woman who claimed that she was forced to drive fast because somebody was following her.
A Grant County judge dropped a $358 ticket against 47-year-old Tammy Camden of Linden, after she cited a “necessity defense” because she was trying to get away from someone.
The Fourth District Court of Appeals in Madison said the defense only applies when a law enforcement officer caused the defendant to speed up.
In Camden’s case, she could not describe the vehicle that was following her – and there was no other evidence – so the judges said the ticket was proper.
It was issued by a state trooper in March of 2012 who caught Camden driving 92 miles an hour in a 55 zone.
