Ex-minister convicted of molesting grandson

MONROE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A former minister and truck driver will spend the rest of his life in prison, after a jury convicted him of molesting a relative who was 13 at the time.

66-year-old Michael Delaney, who now lives in Tomah, is scheduled to be sentenced December 9th in Monroe County. He faces life with no chance for a supervised release under Wisconsin's "Two Strikes and You're Out" law, which demands a life prison term upon a second separate child sex offense.

Delaney's other offense was in Arizona, where he was convicted in 1983 of child sex abuse.

Prosecutors said Delaney sexually assaulted a grandson in 2007 and '08. Authorities said Delaney also forced the youngster to watch pornographic movies, and he threatened to tell people the child was gay if ever spoke out about it.

The victim came forward in late 2011. Delaney retired as a minister at the Church of God of Prophecy in Necedah.

The Sparta jury convicted him of repeated child sex assault, and five counts of child enticement.

New charges filed last month accused Delaney of perjury and false swearing. A trial in that case is set for December 10th in Monroe County.
