Woman found in woods identified after twenty years

BALSAM LAKE, Wis. (WSAU) -- Human remains found by a hunter twenty years ago have been identified. Investigators believe Minneapolis resident Pearline Roberta Walton was murdered in the summer of 1993 and left in a heavily wooded area near Dresser, Wisconsin. The body was discovered during deer season later that year.

Walton’s identity was recently confirmed through the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by comparing DNA with a sample provided by family members. Polk County Wisconsin Sheriff Pete Johnson says having Walton’s remains positively identified is a very important step in the investigation.

Walton was 22-years-old when she disappeared. Investigators are asking anyone with information that may help them solve the murder to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at (715)-485-8300.
