Grantsburg wildfire up to 700 plus acres so far

GRANTSBURG, Wis. (WSAU) - Another out of control wildfire is burning in northwestern Wisconsin.

Firefighters are trying to bring a grassland fire under control near Grantsburg in Burnett County. Department of Natural Resources officials say it started as a controlled burn to on state owned land in marshes, grassland, and some wooded areas. The planned 400 acre burn quickly became a 700 plus acre problem yesterday.

Tanker planes have been assisting ground crews to bring the blaze under control. There are no buildings in the path of the fire, and no one has been injured. DNR officials are looking forward to rain Wednesday night to help put the fire out.

Earlier this summer, the Germann Road Fire near Gordon eighty miles northeast of Grantsburg scorched over 7,400 acres and destroyed 47 structures including 17 homes.
