Random Lake School has tablets back in use

RANDOM LAKE, WI (WHBL) - Tablets are back to full use in the Random Lake School District.  It was over a month ago when a former employee was charged for stealing hundreds of tablets valued at $180,000 just before the start of the new school year.

Superintendent Tom Malmstadt said it was a team effort between vendors, faculty, staff and community members to get new tablets up and running.  Elementary students had tablets in use by the fifth day of the school year, while middle school students waited another week to get theirs.

While the tablets were not individually insured, Malmstadt said they are working to cover the cost of the new devices through the district’s liability insurance.  So far, indications are that this insurance will cover the cost.

The tablets are part of the district’s one on one learning environment for its students.  Currently only the elementary and middle school students have tablets.  Malmstadt said high school students will get a device next school year.
