Kacey Musgaves has a leading six nominations going into next month's CMA Awards on the strength of her debut album, Same Trailer Different Park. While Kacey was hoping for a little recognition from the Country Music Association, she was shocked voters nominated her in so many categories.
“I can’t wrap my brain around that," Kacey tells the London Evening Standard . "They tell me that no debut female has ever had that many nominations. I think people must be ready for unabashed, relatable songs.”
Kacey's latest single, "Follow Your Arrow," has turned quite a few heads, thanks to the lyrics advocating people's rights to smoke marijuana or kiss a person of the same gender. In keeping with the stripped-down tone of her debut hit, "Merry Go Round," the lyrics of "Follow Your Arrow" come across very clearly, thanks to the spare production. Says Kacey, "I like to keep things really stark."
Kacey is set to perform on the 47th Annual CMA Awards, broadcasting live from Nashville November 6 on ABC.
