SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Forty students at three Sheboygan County parochial schools are receiving vouchers from the state to help pay for their education this school year. According to figures released Tuesday by the state Department of Public Instruction, 20 students are attending Sheboygan Christian School. Ten each attend Sheboygan Area Lutheran High School and St. John Lutheran School in Plymouth.
The three schools are part of the 25 across the state taking part in the first year of the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program. The cost of the program is over $3.2 million, with funding coming from state general purpose revenues that also fund public schools. Of the 512 students receiving vouchers, 73 percent attended a private school last school year. Only 21 percent attended a public school.
