SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Two Sheboygan elementary schools have again received state recognition for having children of low-income families perform above state education averages. The state Department of Public Instruction announced last week the 167 schools that will receive Title One Schools of Recognition awards this school year.
Jefferson Elementary and U.S. Grant Elementary in Sheboygan have been named “Beating the Odds” schools for having above average student achievement in reading and mathematics while ranking in the top 25 percent of high poverty schools in the state. This is the sixth straight year for Jefferson to receive this award, while it is the fourth straight for U.S. Grant.
All schools will be recognized at a program in the Capitol October 8, where each will receive a plaque and 500 dollars.
