HOUSTON, TX (WHBL) - The task facing the Wisconsin Badgers in Saturday night's season opener is a huge one. They will face one of the powerhouse teams from the nation’s strongest conference in the N-R-G Stadium in Houston. The LSU Tigers are a perennial contender under coach Les Miles, including a national championship just a few years ago. The Tigers bring a strong running game into the contest to test a Badger defense with eight new starters. LSU comes into the season ranked 13th, while Wisconsin is ranked 14th. Tanner McEvoy is expected to start at quarterback for the Badgers. McEvoy actually played 10 games at the safety position last season. Both teams are traditionally strong out of the gate. Wisconsin has won 16 consecutive openers, while LSU is 9-0 in openers under coach Les Miles. The S-E-C has won 44 of 74 games against the Big Ten over the last 20 seasons, counting bowl games.
Pregame coverage Saturday gets underway on WHBL at 6pm. Kickoff is at 8 o'clock.
