SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Water Utility is asking customers to assist in preventing frozen water laterals. Superintendent Joe Trueblood said they have received 15 calls in the past week for this problem, an increase from last year. He blames the colder than normal winter causing frost to reach deep enough in the ground to possibly effect water services in the city.
Trueblood is recommending customers to run a stream of cold water from a faucet, no wider than a pencil, during nighttime hours. While this will add around a dollar charge for every eight hours done, he sees it as an investment to ensure no water pipes or laterals do get frozen and utility crews are out trying to unthaw pipes.
If you do suffer a frozen water lateral, you can contact the utility at 459-3800, then press 2.
