SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The city of Sheboygan is now formally seeking proposals to rejuvenate the Armory. The city council Monday night spent just over a half hour in closed session discussing the long-term strategy for the building, and then voted unanimously to request proposals. Mayor Mike Vandersteen said they want those proposals in by October 31st and then hope to make a final decision by next November. He said they have one group - The Sheboygan Armory Foundation - which has already submitted a proposal, but there are others out there. Vandersteen said the city has received quite a few letters about the Armory. He said all proposals should be considered before a final decision is made. Collin Kachel, President of the Sheboygan Armory Foundation, expressed concern during public input that the city may mothball the Armory and cause further damage. Vandersteen said it will be up to the Public Works Department to come up with a plan to make sure there is no further damage to the building in the interim.
