Sheboygan County feeling some pressure from national propane shortage

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - A few residents in Sheboygan County are feeling the pinch of the propane shortage affecting Wisconsin and other states.

County Emergency Management Director Steve Steinhardt says the biggest impact is the rapid rise in the cost for propane.  Not only have prices triples in recent week, but vendors are forced to pay for new shipments with cash on delivery, and the same goes for customers receiving any new supplies from those vendors.

He said local suppliers feel confident they have enough to give to customers until more arrives, but it will be tight and dependent on the weather.  Steinhardt recommends to propane users to conserve as much as possible.  The best way to do this is by setting thermostats down to a level where you are warm enough comfortably.  He also recommends lowering the water heater temperature down since that too uses propane to heat up.

Anyone who needs assistance in paying for the increased propane costs is asked to call the county’s Energy Assistance Program at 459-5908.  Additional assistance from the state can be pursued by contacting the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program at 866-432-8947, or Keep Wisconsin Warm at 800-891-9276.
