SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A public hearing will be held Wednesday evening regarding a proposed fifth Herb Kohler - owned golf course in the area. The Kohler Company wants to use what has been tented forest land along Lake Michigan, north of the Kohler-Andrea State Park in the Town of Wilson, to build an 18 hole course.
The biggest issue appears to be the environmental impact of the proposed course. A group of local residents has formed the Friends of the Black River Forest to oppose the course, saying it has no benefit to town residents and will damage the area's habitat.
In response, Kohler Co. announced Wednesday morning that if the golf course can be built they will seek to have it earn Audubon Signature Course Certification and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design to ensure water quality, protect wildlife habitat, and conserving natural resources.
The public hearing for the conditional use permit is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Wilson Town Hall.
