GREEN BAY, WI (WHBL) - A Manitowoc man who embezzled over $400,000 from a Sheboygan firm and evaded nearly $90,000 in taxes has been sentenced to prison. 41 year old Paul La Chapelle was sentenced Monday in federal court in Green Bay to two years in prison to be followed by 3 years on probation. He was also ordered to make restitution of $520,000 and pay $100 per month during his probation. Authorities said La Chapelle had worked as a maintenance technician at Nemschoff Chairs in Sheboygan for 6 years. They said he began stealing parts from the business and then would receive kickbacks for replacement parts that he ordered. He was facing four felony charges of tax evasion and 10 counts of wire fraud. La Chapelle was working at Nemak in Sheboygan for 18 months prior to his sentencing Monday. La Chapelle was charged in February following a two year investigation by the IRS, which began when officials of Nemschoff contacted Sheboygan Police about the embezzlement.
