MADISON, WI (WHBL) - Several area cheese makers received top honors during this week’s World Cheese Championship event in Madison.
Of the 90 category winners, three went to local cheese makers. Sartori of Plymouth earned the top spot in the shredded cheese category, Cesar Cheese in Random Lake for their string cheeses, and Henning Cheese of Kiel for their bandaged medium/mild cheddar. Four other area makers from Kiel, Plymouth and Cleveland earned top three honors in their respected categories.
Of all the winners, 33 were from Wisconsin, and 59 were from the U.S. The top overall cheese was a Swiss cheese from Switzerland.
