Resident: Sheboygan Falls Middle School Referendum too costly right now

by

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Falls School District is once again running a referendum that would build a new middle school and auditorium to replace the current structure.  One city resident is voicing his opposition to the plan - not because of the need for a new building, but due to the cost.

Wally Endsley said if the referendum is approved, district residents will have to pay 49 million dollars over 20 years for the project’s cost, with interest.  Add in the recent elementary school project and the upcoming city municipal building renovation, and city residents will have a debt burden of over $66 million.

Endsley says he had heard from a number of senior citizen residents who are also opposed to the plan due to the projected tax burden.  His recommendation would be to finish paying off the elementary school, get a start on the municipal building costs, and then consider building a new middle school.
