FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - About 50 students staged a May Day sit-in at Fond du Lac High School, in the midst of a controversy over censorship.
According to the Fond du Lac Reporter, the principal gathered the youngsters into the school commons -- and then they were ushered into a performing arts facility where media members were not allowed to go.
School officials said they planned to discuss the censorship concerns, raised after officials took over the ability to review articles for student publications before they go out. That came in the wake of a February story about student attitudes toward sexual assault.
The Reporter said it protested the media ban, but Superintendent Jim Sebert said the district was within its rights to keep the media out -- even as parents continued to be allowed in.
