RANDON LAKE, WI (WHBL) - The driver of an SUV that left the road and struck and toppled a tree along Cranberry Road in the town of Scott early this morning has died. The Sheriff's Department said 22 year old Christopher Goneau of West Bend was driving the Pontiac Torrent which careened off the road several miles west of Random Lake shortly after one this morning, struck the tree and rolled several times. He was pinned in the wreckage and had to be freed by Jaws and then was flown from the scene to Froederdt Hospital in Milwaukee where he died of his injuries. A passenger, 21 year old Matthew Rooney of Jackson was ejected from the vehicle and pinned under the tree as it fell. He was also flown from the scene with serious injuries. A third passenger, 21 year old Michael Manteufel of West Bend, sustained moderate injuries. Authorities said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the mishap.
