I want to be very clear about this before I say what I’m going to say: I love this lady. I love that she’s still very active at 96 years old, I love that she bowls, I love that this senior league is fully behind her, I love it all. Love, love, love!
That said, the title that I used on this blog has a VERY important distinction: 9-tap. I was listening to a different radio station in our building talk about this story today, and they just kept on saying, ’96 year old bowls a 300, 96 year old bowls a 300, 96 year old bowls a 300.’ As a lifelong bowler, who has never bowled a 300 game, my immediate instinct was: There’s no way that’s possible. No knock against Sara Lyons, or any other 96 year old, but if you’re going to tell me a 96 year old person bowled a legitimate 300 game, then you can tell your story walking. I don’t want to be the person/blogger that goes after a 96 year old person who is still living their best life, I don’t WANT that, but you simply can’t use, ’96 year old bowls a 300 game,’ as a headline here.
All kidding aside, bowling a 9-tap 300 game isn’t a walk in the park either, especially when you’re 96 years old. So big time credit to her for a huge accomplishment. Overall this is a very feel-good story that didn’t need the middle paragraph that I wrote, but it is what it is. Can’t delete it now. Those are the rules (?) of blogging.
PS: I realize this blog doesn’t make me look the best, that’s not lost on me.
Double PS: Just because I had to know, I googled, ‘oldest person to bowl a 300 game.’ The oldest person to bowl a recognized 300 game was 75-year old, Robert Harrison in 2013.
Triple PS: I always wanted to get a 300 game just so I could get one of these jackets:

What a look! Wear this bad boy around town and you’d never have to initiate a conversation again.
