Hand up, I had no idea there were Peeps for all seasons. I thought these were just a thing for Easter/spring. But, as it turns out, there are Peeps for Halloween and Christmas too!
Well, except this year, apparently. The manufacturer that produces these bad boys in Pennsylvania closed down in April at the beginning of the pandemic, and reopened in late May with new health protocols in place. But that wasn’t soon enough to get Halloween and Christmas Peeps on shelves for the upcoming holiday season.
Now for me personally, this isn’t that big of deal. Peeps aren’t my bag. I would sort of equate them to candy corn. Some people love them, some people hate them, but there’s not a lot of middle ground. If I never consumed another Peep for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it. But keep in mind this opinion is coming from someone who eats Mary Janes around this time of year and loves them, so by my own admission I’m not sure I can be trusted with a, ‘what’s good/not good,’ debate.
That said, I do know that the people that love them, LOVE them. My aunt, Marlita, is one of those people. She is a nun/educator, and spent a lot of my childhood working in Peru. As you might expect, Peeps were hard to come by in that corner of the world. So every spring, my parents would buy me a single plane ticket to South America, load up a suitcase with only Peeps, and send me on my way.
KIDDING.
But we did buy a bunch of them every spring, put them in the freezer, and then would thaw them out when she would visit over the summer for a week or two.
My guess is that the Easter Peep market should be just fine, but if you’re desperate for a pumpkin shaped Peep, you might be out of luck. Or you might be scouring weird corners of the dark web for a Peep black market. Either/or.
PS: I sort of get where this guy is coming from:
