MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Wisconsin on Friday reported more than 6,000 new cases of coronavirus in a single day for the first time ever.
It’s the third time the single day growth record has been broken this week.
The total of 6,141 new confirmed cases were 29.5% of the 20,785 tests administered.
The state Department of Health Services reported 62 new deaths, the second-most in a single day.
Seven-day averages rose to record levels of 5,139 new cases, 33% test positivity and 41 deaths.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 256,065 confirmed cases, nearly 1.9 million negative tests and 2,256 deaths. DHS considers 198,090 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Friday morning, there were five patients at the alternate care facility near Milwaukee.
