SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Some metrics used to track the coronavirus pandemic, such as the active case count, continue heading in the right direction. But there’s no “right direction” when any death is added, and Tuesday’s report from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health added eight: two in their 60s, one in their 70s and five 80 or older. They’re among the 122 county residents who have lost their battle to COVID-19. 11,917 have recovered, and 435 cases are active at this time. 11 confirmed positive cases were added to the total of 12,474 in all, and were 14.8% of all tests received.
34.4% of all test returns received since Monday statewide were positive for COVID-19, adding 1,095 cases to the now 544,260 cases confirmed so far. 40 more deaths were added, putting the toll at 5,937. 123 more persons were hospitalized, and after accounting for deaths and discharges, the state’s COVID patient population dropped 29 to 657. 158 of those were in ICU beds, and 442 ventilators are in use.
Starting February 8, all Wisconsin National Guard testing sites, including that at the ADRC parking lot in Sheboygan Falls, will be able to test children 12 months or older. The teams are being trained this week on techniques for swabbing younger children, and all members of the specimen collection teams will be equipped to do so going forward.
The Aging and Disability Resource Center site is now open Wednesdays only from 9 AM until 5 PM through March 10th.
