The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has begun mailing a newsletter to residents and businesses in Cedar Grove, detailing construction that will close the main access to the village from I-43 beginning Monday, August 2nd.
In order to reconstruct the stretch of Highway 32 that runs from Main Street to the interstate, the official detour will route traffic between a point 7 miles north of the village at 32 and County Highway “V”, to I-43 and southward to Cedar Grove where 32 shares its route with the interstate. That’s a 10-mile trip around the 1 mile-long project.
We contacted Project Manager Kyle Treml of the DOT for clarification about access to the village, and he confirmed that this detour is strictly for purposes of maintaining a continuous Highway 32 route that normally passes through Cedar Grove. Local traffic, he said, will be able to use Sauk Trail Road and County Highways “LL” and “RR” to get into the village from I-43, as that intersection just west of the interstate will remain open, although some work there will require flagging operations. The entire project should take a month to complete.
