Live look at Strange Brew International World Headquarters after seeing this video pop up on my feed this morning:

I think this time of year it’s easy to get wrapped up (golf swing!) in the holiday season, buying presents, eating a metric ton of sugar and gravy, etc., which can leave you feeling a little overwhelmed. But videos like this are great perspective. The look on Riley’s face when she can see clearly for the first time in her life is priceless. My cold, Grinch heart grew three sizes seeing that reaction. I often take for granted the small things in my life that are actually big things that I’m lucky to have. This video reminded me of that.
Related: As a fellow glasses-wearer since high school, I truly think that eyeglasses are one of mankind’s greatest inventions. When I take my glasses off I can’t see 2 feet in front of my face. Without them I would barely be able to see the people I interact with, I wouldn’t be able to drive, I wouldn’t be able to watch ‘The Office’ over and over and over again, I couldn’t watch Packer games on Sunday, it’s insane to think of how your quality of life would drop off without them if you’re someone who needs them.
Fun fact: The first eyeglasses known to history appeared in Italy around the 13th century:

I want to bring that second style back with my next prescription. But really think about that: Until about 1300 AD, when you started to lose your sight, you just lost it. Think about that in the context of prehistoric man. You couldn’t hunt, you couldn’t hit your future mate over the head with a club, you were essentially cooked as a human being. But glasses changed everything. They leveled the playing field. Amazing.
PS: No I did not consume an edible before writing this blog.
Double PS: One of my favorite Family Guy scenes of all time, and very relatable to anyone who has been to the eye doctor:
