I’ve LONG been on the bandwagon that the NBA on TNT pre and post-game show is the best sports show on TV. The dynamic between Shaq, Kenny and Chuck is tremendous and Ernie Johnson is the PERFECT wrangler for all of the nonsense on that show. But the person that makes that show what it is, is Chuck. Crazy to think that at this point an entire generation of young fans basically only know Barkley as an A+ analyst and never really saw him play basketball outside of YouTube highlights.
But in all honesty, if you allowed those four guys to run the pre and postgame shows for every single sport in America, I think they’d nail it. NFL, NHL, MLB, NASCAR, whatever, it would be a home run every single time. And the above video is exhibit A. Not only is Chuck funny, he actually sounds reasonably knowledgeable about hockey.
Which shouldn’t come as a surprise, actually. The man is a well documented degenerate gambler. And as a fellow degenerate gambler, let me tell you, you can learn a LOT about a sport very quickly if it’s something you want to throw money on. When NASCAR was the only sport going during the first few months of the pandemic, I was an expert in it for 3 short months. Same thing with Bundesliga soccer when that became the first non-racing sport to get cranked up. I got pretty well versed in the top players, teams, rivalries, etc. Don’t even get me started on RB Leipzig those crooks. But yeah, I’m guessing Chuck is cut from the same mold and that probably gives him a decent working knowledge of just about every sport on the planet.
In conclusion: Chuck is one of the few people in the world that I’d watch no matter what he is covering. We don’t want more, we need more. Cue the best clip of 2021:
PS: The fact that The Finals are on ABC/ESPN is a legitimate travesty. The NBA on TNT crew NEEDS to be a part of the biggest series of the year. During the Bucks run last season I remember being crushed anytime they played on ESPN and we were robbed of EJ/Shaq/Kenny/Chuck.
