First things first: HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIANNIS! 29 years old and celebrating his birthday on the feast of another famous Greek: Balki Bartokomous.

KIDDING. Giannis has his birthday on the same day as the feast of the famous Greek: St. Nick.
Anyway, I think I’ve written a borderline creepy amount of blogs about my love for this once-in-a-lifetime unicorn that somehow landed in Milwaukee and turned our franchise from a pumpkin to a carriage, so we’ll instead focus on the video attached at the top of this blog.
I went to the game last night with my Android-loving buddy, Paul, and we were both in awe as Giannis casually listed off every candy that exists on earth in 30 seconds. TYPICALLY during these type of fan-interaction videos, the athlete names 5-10 things in 30 seconds, and someone in the crowd has a chance to beat that number to win a David Gruber t-shirt. From a marketing perspective, the thinking is that you want the fan to win and have a nice experience and memorable moment.
Not on Giannis’ watch! You can’t contain that competitive instinct! He even had time to work in a little dance with the Fruit Roll-Up drop. 31 candies in 30 seconds. Absurd.
And the wildest thing is that the woman they got from the crowd to go against him named THIRTY! She almost did it! Hand to God I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these competitions at Fiserv Forum or Am Fam Field end with either person getting a higher number than 15 or 16. Truly an all-time commercial break time-killer moment.
PS: Bucks fans were, and are, rightfully concerned about a defensive dropoff from last year’s team to this year’s team. Here’s the thing though: In the NBA, the best defense is an ELITE offense. And that’s what we’re starting to see from Giannis, Dame, Middleton and the boys. They’re getting more comfortable, their chemistry is getting better, and that’s BAD news for the rest of the league. They dropped 146 points and shot 60% from the field (and from distance) against the #1 rated defense in the league. SHEESH.
