MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A new bill in the Wisconsin Legislature would require parking structures to have inspections every five years.
The proposal, introduced by four Milwaukee area legislators, would assess a $200 fine every month to parking garage owners for 12 months if they don’t meet up with inspection standards.
The measure also states that the garage could be shut down if no inspection is conducted a year later.
The proposal comes nearly a year after the parking garage at Glendale’s Bayshore Mall collapsed under the weight of heavy snow, and more than a decade after a panel fell from Milwaukee’s O’Donnell Park parking garage, killing a teen and injuring two others on the first day of the 2010 edition of Summerfest.
