Representative John Macco basically releasing this statement as the Packer plane out of Green Bay is on the tarmac:
This is like in college when I would neglect a semester-long project until the last minute and then email my professor at 2am the day itโs due asking for an extension. *MIGHT* have raised these concerns a bit earlier.
And look, he may have some valid points! Iโll be honest, I have no idea what the hell is going on in Brazil. There were reports a few months ago advising people to not wear green* if theyโre going to the game, then that got poo-pooed by Americans living in Sao Paulo. Now more players are coming out and saying theyโve been told to basically stay in their hotel and not do any sight-seeing, thereโs smog all over the place from rainforest fires, you canโt use Twitter and if you get caught using a VPN you could get fined 10 grand, it doesnโt sound ideal!
But like with most things, some of this stuff is probably getting blown out of proportion. Iโve seen the word, โxenophobic,โ tossed around more in the last few days than I had in my entire life leading up to this point. Iโm sure parts are true, and parts are exaggerated. At the end of the day, is going to Sao Paulo any more dangerous or grim than going to Philly? Probably a horse a piece.
In any case, one thing I know for certain is that the NFL isnโt cancelling this game. The vibe I get from both teams is that they want to get in, get a win, and get out.
*If there is any truth to this then sending two teams with shades of green as their primary color seems suboptimal.
PS: Everything I need to know about what to avoid in a foreign country I learned from this 90โs classic:
Donโt talk to strangers and always have Bill Pullman on retainer in case you need a fictional lawyer!
