Very few things in this world are perfect (Sheboygan hard rolls, ice cold PBR, Giannis), but this is perfect. Toby Keith was a YUGE fan of Oklahoma athletics, probably their biggest monetary donor, he was at all of the games, this is the perfect way to memorialize him at every OU football game. I would say the crowd was perhaps a bit subdued here in terms of the singalong, but as the weeks go by they’re going to get more and more into it and it’s only going to get better and better. One of those ideas that was a no-brainer and perfectly executed.
So put this up there with some of the great 3rd to 4th quarter college football song-traditions:
Oregon’s “Shout”:
Alabama’s “Dixieland Delight”:
Michigan’s “Mr. Brightside”:
Virginia Tech’s “Enter Sandman”:
Tennessee’s “Rocky Top”:
And of course, Wisconsin’s “Jump Around”:
Electric factory! Of course there are others, Notre Dame does a version of “Shipping Up to Boston,” Colorado has the Run With Ralphie, and Ohio State does that thing with their marching band where they prove they can spell (75% of the time), but those are some of the best. And I’d put Oklahoma’s new one right toward the top of the list.
PS: If I’m honest, after watching all of these in order to post them, Virginia Tech’s Metallica is the best right? I think I watched it 10 times in a row, goosebumps every time.
