The odds are nearly zero that Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Captain Corey Norlander is trying to contact you…but phone scammers would like you to ignore those odds and send them money instead. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is not alone in the scheme where a caller, often disguising their number as the real-deal for the source, claims to be Captain Corey Norlander who has an urgent matter to discuss. By the way, Sheriff Spence noted that Captain Norlander hasn’t needed to make any such call in recent memory, and he especially wouldn’t make anything less than an in-person visit to conduct such official business.
The business the caller is conducting is strictly for their own benefit – they’d like you to send gift cards or bitcoin to avoid a supposed arrest due to a warrant that doesn’t really exist.
The Sheriff is urging anyone that receives such an approach to disregard the caller and hang up. If you have reason to believe that there’s a legitimate reason to be contacted, then call the Sheriff’s Office business line directly at 920-459-3111.
