Two area public servants were honored in the State Assembly on Tuesday. The “First Responder of the Year” honors recognize outstanding service to the residents, and this year go to members of local police departments.
26th District Representative Joe Sheehan named Sheboygan Police Sergeant Shannon McKay as his First Responder of the Year choice, noting his 24 years of service to Sheboygan, 12 of those as a shift lead. Sheehan called him “the best among the best!”
27th District Representative Lindee Brill chose Officer Cory Wilkens of the Kiel Police Department for the honor, saying that Wilkens “served our community bravely for 35 years as a Police Officer, Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor and Dispatcher”. He will retire in January next year.
