This graphic blew my mind this morning:

I knew that the system we are currently dealing with this morning at one point stretched down to the Gulf of Mexico, but I did not realize the amount of snow cover over the entire country. I’m not a meteorologist (but I play one on the radio), but I would think this high of a percentage is pretty rare. Like in a perfect world where we could bet on weather*, if we could bet on an over/under of total snow cover over the United States, I would think the ‘over’ on 70% would be a huge long shot.
I don’t want to get into a merit debate about the science behind global warming, but I will say this: The people that trust the science behind global warming have to be facing a HUGE uphill climb lately trying to convince the people that think it’s malarkey. We’re on what feels like day #412 in a row of either sub-zero temperatures, wind chills 30-40 degrees below zero, 8-10 inches of snow, or all three. Cue the Bill Murray:

*Easily the one thing that could make winter 1 billion times more enjoyable. Could you imagine sitting outside with a ruler the night of a big snowstorm and you have the over on 6 inches?? Or in some of this extreme cold you’ve got the under (over?) on the reported temperature getting below -5 degrees. How this hasn’t become a thing yet is beyond me. Meteorologists would essentially become bookies. And that’s the world I want to live in.
PS: I saw this guy trending on Twitter yesterday. He’s perfect. Sunglasses, gas station coffee in one hand, Marb Red in the other, telling people to figure it out or he’ll figure it out for them. Get this man the keys to truck #20.
