Look, it’s been a little bit of a rough stretch for Wisconsin sports. The Brewers have been in a bit of a spiral and traded their All Star closer*, the Packers have just gotten started and so far the biggest storylines from camp revolve around Aaron Rodgers’ henna tattoo and hallucino9genic tea vision quests, the Bucks obviously haven’t played since May and don’t start camp for another month.
But that leads to the above video. EuroBasket 2022 prep games are underway and the Antetokounbros are all playing for Greece (I think new Herd member, Alex, did get cut right before the tournament got underway). As expected, Giannis is THRASHING a bunch of random jamokes from all over the world. He dropped a casual 31 point, 10 rebound line in TWENTY minutes.
I think the actual tournament games start on September 1st, but by then we’ll be in full-on football mode and (hopefully) pennant chase mode for the Crew. But these highlights are dropping at the perfect time. It’s a nice reminder that no matter how bad things may or may not get, we have the best basketball player on the planet to root for in three short months. It’s kind of like being on summer vacation as a kid, dreading going back to school, but then seeing one of your buddies from school and remembering how much fun you have in Fall.
Related: Please, for the love of GOD, stay healthy playing in this thing. I actually kind of forgot that this was happening and when I read on Twitter that things were getting cranked up I instantly seized up with anxiety about Giannis playing in games that don’t really matter (to Bucks fans). It wouldn’t be so bad if Giannis didn’t treat every game like it was Game 7 while subsequently treating his body like a used car. I’m not a parent but I would imagine my feelings on Giannis mirror those of parent’s worrying about their kid’s healthy every day.
*Hader’s first save attempt in San Diego last night: 2/3 of an inning pitched, 37 pitches, 3 earned runs, blown save. I’m not rooting against Josh by any means unless he’s trying to nail down a save against the Brewers, but if his struggles continue you do wonder if that was a major factor in the Brewers pulling the trigger on that deal when they did.
PS: Matt Bush got his first save for the Crew last night. I wasn’t there, but Miller Park NEEDS to play this after every Bush strikeout:
