Sheboygan’s John Michael Kohler Arts Center was recognized for its “outstanding contributions to Wisconsin’s travel and hospitality industry” during the 2023 Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism held earlier this week in Green Bay. Six different awardees were chosen from a field of 73 nominees consisting of individuals, businesses and destinations, the largest field since the inception of the awards in 2010.
The JMKAC was recognized as a “local treasure” which, for over 50 years, has supported the work of self-taught and contemporary artists in its two free museums, and through festivals and programs that attract thousands each year.
The Governor’s Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Award is presented annually to a business or destination that showcases the arts, culture or heritage for the enhancement of the tourism experience and economic well-being of a community.
