Calumet County residents are being warned of a telephone scam that’s circulating in that county. The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of people getting a call from a man claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office. The caller tells his intended target that there’s a warrant for their arrest, and that a payment, typically via a gift card, is the only way to avoid being taken into custody.
The bottom line is that no warrants are ever addressed over the telephone, the Sheriff does no business with gift cards, and this is a scam. The Sheriff is warning anybody who receives such a call to hang up, and to never provide any personal information, bank information, gift card numbers or other information to such a caller.
