BAH GAWD IS THAT STEVEN SEAGULL’S MUSIC????
Let’s hop in the DeLorean, gun it to 88mph, and travel back to 2016:
The Milwaukee Bucks are starting up their own G League franchise and attempting to select a city to play in. There were 5 cities originally in the running, and it is essentially down to 2 by the final vote: Oshkosh and Sheboygan.
The Sheboygan proposal is headed by former Kohler standout, former NBA player, former NBA coach, and longtime regional owner of Dairy Queen*, Joe Wolf. His plan revolves around renovating the Sheboygan Armory, and old WPA building on the lakefront, that was once home to one of the NBA’s original franchises: The Sheboygan Redskins *NAME REDACTED*
Joe Wolf’s unofficial director of PR? This guy:
Handsome in his own way, and with a hairline that is definitely not retreating under that hat.
Well during the course of the Bucks hearing these proposals, the B93 textline came up with a SICK team name for a minor league basketball team: The Surf City Seagulls. An homage to the Malibu of the Midwest’s fresh water surfing culture, and our ubiquitous air-rat, the seagull.
This led to me coming up with a team mascot, complete with flawless Microsoft Paint renderings: Steven Seagull. A seagull with a blackbelt in karate and a mouth full of french fries he scooped up off of the pavement at North Point Drive.
Sadly, Oshkosh won out in the end with their proposal that included a brand new arena, and have been home to the Wisconsin Herd (eyeroll) since 2017.
WELL, it looks like that arena is for sale! Is Steven Seagull alive??
Could he roundhouse kick his way back into a moderate amount of fame in the 256th (of 280) rated radio market in the country?? Sure the Armory has been reduced to rubble, but before more affordable housing with a lake view goes up, maybe we can still turn that site into something more useful?? It’s a long shot, but I believe in Steven Seagull. We all should. He is the best of us. And the worst.
*I can’t imagine how many times I would just go HAM on the Blizzard machines after closing if I owned a Dairy Queen. Large cup, every possible topping, I would be soft serve Caligula. 3-5 times weekly MINIMUM.
PS: I can’t help but feel like Sheboygan would have won that vote if our Olive Garden had been built in 2016 and not 2023. They just weren’t going to take us seriously until we had one of those Michelin-rated Italian casual dining spots. 7 years too late.
